Indoor Sports Hall Plagued By Mismanagement, Players Frustrated As Practice Sessions Halted.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 27th of May 2026 : The Gourishekhar Roy Indoor Sports Hall in Dharmanagar of North District was launched with much anticipation and promises of sporting development. However, due to mismanagement, lack of coordination, and alleged negligence by the concerned department, the sports infrastructure has now become almost non-functional. As a result, players of badminton and other indoor games are facing serious difficulties.During a visit to the indoor hall premises on Tuesday evening, several players were seen waiting for practice sessions, only to find the main gate locked. Even after waiting for a long time, no initiative was taken to open the hall, leading to resentment among the players.

One player stated that many athletes travel from distant areas every day to practice at the venue. With state-level competitions approaching, regular training has become extremely important. However, the hall frequently remains closed, creating major obstacles in their preparation. Players alleged that they have been facing the same situation repeatedly over the past few days.Sources said that among the three keys to the indoor hall, one remains with the Sports Office while the other two are with officials of the North District Badminton Association.

When the Sports Office remains open, access to the hall is somehow managed, but during office hours closure, players have to depend on association officials. At present, that arrangement too is reportedly not functioning properly. As a result, players remain uncertain about when the hall will open or remain closed.Players questioned how aspiring athletes and the younger generation would get opportunities for proper practice if one of the district’s important sports infrastructures continues to suffer from such poor management. Sports enthusiasts have also expressed growing dissatisfaction and demanded regular opening of the government-funded indoor sports hall along with proper maintenance and management.
