International Day Of Yoga Organized By Khowai District Administration.

Khowai, Tripura, 21st of June 2026 : With the initiative of the Khowai District Administration International Yoga Day was observed on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. at the premises of the Kali Temple in Subhash Park, Khowai, Tripura on Sunday (21st June, 2026).

In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the event

At the beginning of the event, Sushanta Chowdhury visited the Kali Temple and offered prayers. He was later accorded a warm welcome on the stage with traditional Risa. Following the felicitation, the Minister joined students, officials, and other participants in a yoga session.

Interacted with the media Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated that, as in the previous year, the State Government had deputed him to Khowai district to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations. He noted that the International Yoga Day 2026 was being observed in the presence of district officials, party workers, social activists, students, and members of the public. Expressing his gratitude, he thanked everyone for their enthusiastic participation and also conveyed appreciation on behalf of the State Government for making the event a success.

PM Narendra Modi stated that after assuming office as Prime Minister, played a pivotal role in promoting yoga on the global stage, leading to 21 June being observed annually as International Yoga Day. Since then, the day has gained worldwide recognition and is celebrated across numerous countries.

He further noted that the practice of yoga is no longer confined to India or Tripura alone. Indians living abroad, as well as people in many Western nations, have embraced yoga for its numerous benefits, including disease prevention, physical fitness, mental well-being, and inner peace.

The Minister emphasized that the true significance of International Yoga Day lies in encouraging individuals to lead healthier and more balanced lives. A physically fit and mentally strong society can contribute more effectively to nation-building, social development, and the overall progress of the country. Yoga, he said, serves as a powerful tool in achieving these goals by fostering harmony between the body, mind, and spirit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized the importance of making yoga a part of daily life. According to him, every individual should dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to yoga practice in order to maintain good health, build a disease-free body, promote longevity, and enhance both physical and mental development.

The Minister also remarked that when the idea of observing an International Yoga Day was first proposed, many people in the country were uncertain whether it could gain acceptance and recognition at the global level. However, over the years, yoga has transcended national boundaries and emerged as a worldwide movement, with millions of people across different countries participating in International Yoga Day celebrations and embracing yoga as a means to achieve a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

International Yoga Day has earned recognition not only across India but throughout the world. The initiative has grown into a global movement, with people from diverse countries embracing yoga as a means of achieving better health and well-being.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that just as Narendra Modi has provided leadership and direction to the nation, he has also helped promote the message of yoga across the world. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s appeal that every individual should make yoga a regular part of daily life and devote at least 30 minutes each morning to yoga practice.

According to him, regular yoga contributes significantly to physical fitness, mental well-being, and overall personal development. It helps individuals maintain a healthy lifestyle, strengthens the body’s natural immunity, and enhances the ability to prevent various illnesses. He emphasized that adopting yoga as a daily habit can play a vital role in building a healthier and more productive society.

Among the other dignitaries present were District Magistrate of Khowai Rajat Panth, Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy, Sabhadhipati of Khowai Zilla Parishad Aparna Singh Roy, Chairman of Khowai Municipal Council Debashish Nath Sharma, social workers Samir Das and Anukul Das.

The programme also participation of students from various schools and coaching centres across the district, along with teachers, social activists, making the International Yoga Day celebration a vibrant and community-oriented event.
