Agartala, Tripura, 3rd of July, 2025 : With the initiative of Kharchi Festival Executive Committee organized Kharchi Puja festival at Old Agartala, Agartala,Tripura in collaboration with the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Government of Tripura on Thursday (3rd July, 2025). The festival is a week-long celebration centered around the worship of the fourteen deities.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the Kharchi Fair 2025 on the occasion of traditional Kharchi Puja festival at Chaturdash Devata (14 Goddesses) Temple premises in Old Agartala. In the presence of many dignitaries the Chief Minister inaugurated the Kharchi Fair 2025 by lighting the lamp. The Chief Minister inaugurated and inspected the stalls by cutting the ribbon. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also visited fourteen Gods and offered prayers today.

Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of Kharchi Fair 2025 Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Kharchi Fair is a large festival place of mixed cultures of the state. On the auspicious occasion of Kharchi festival of peace, harmony, and brotherhood is created around the fair. Along with this, there is also an exchange of culture and tradition around the fair. The Chief Minister said that Kharchi Puja is a symbol of happiness, prosperity and consciousness. The fourteenth deity is basically the ancestral deity of the royal family of Tripura and the worshiped deity of the tribal communities of the state. At present, Kharchi is universally worshiped by both the caste and indigenous people. The Chief Minister said that the State Government is trying to save the endangered art and culture. The Government has taken the initiative to create a cultural hub in the State. To save the art of Jatra (Drama) and theatre, large-scale Jatra and theatre festivals are being organized in the State. The Chief Minister said that in the last one year, 500 or more programs have been organized by the Government to save the art and culture.

“Puppet dance is disappearing from the state. Efforts must be made to keep puppet dance alive. The Government and the people of the State must come forward to preserve or protect the culture of the tribes and ethnic groups in the State. This time, 3 crore rupees have been allocated in the State budget to organize cultural workshops to preserve the culture of the tribes of the state. Various courses have been launched in collaboration with the Satyajit Ray Film Institute for the benefit of the talented people of the State.”, Chief Minister added.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were , Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA and Chairman of Kharchi Puja Committee Ratan Chakraborty, West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, MLA Swapna Debbarma, Chairman of Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Jharna Rani Das, and may other distinguished dignitaries were present in the inauguration ceremony today. On this auspicious occasion of artists presented attractive cultural programmes like dance, song, music to beautify the ceremony.
