Dharmanagar, Tripura, 2nd of October, 2026 : In the silence of a deserted jungle, the faint cry of a newborn suddenly broke through the stillness. That cry ultimately helped save the life of a newborn baby girl, who was found wrapped in a polythene sheet and abandoned in a jungle near Charupasha, Ward No. 3, adjacent to Uptakhali Colony School under Panisagar subdivision. The incident has sparked widespread shock and anger in the area.At around 4 p.m. on Thursday, local resident Ajit Debnath was passing along the road when he suddenly heard the faint sound of a baby crying. Initially unsure of what he was hearing, he followed the sound into the jungle. There, he was confronted with a heartbreaking sight—a newborn baby girl lying on the ground, wrapped in a polythene sheet. After the baby was discovered, news of the incident quickly spread through the area, and local residents rushed to the spot. The infant was immediately rescued and taken to the Uptakhali Primary Health Centre.

According to hospital sources, the baby had been left in the jungle for a considerable period, resulting in bite marks on various parts of her body from ants and insects. However, following initial treatment, her condition was reported to be stable.After receiving information about the incident, police from Panisagar Police Station began an investigation. Authorities are trying to determine who abandoned the newborn in the jungle and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The baby was later handed over to the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Dharmanagar.The discovery of the helpless newborn has naturally raised questions about the circumstances that led to her being abandoned in such a remote location. Police are investigating the reasons behind the incident.Local residents have also demanded that those responsible be identified at the earliest and face appropriate legal action.The cries of a baby who was on the verge of being lost in the darkness of the jungle were ultimately heard by people nearby. Alongside the ongoing investigation, residents are now hoping that the newborn will receive proper care and that her safety and future will be ensured.
