Agartala, 24th of December 2023 : Apropos news article published in your daily on 24 Dec 2023 regarding “tension rises in Boxanagar…” as BSF jawans accused of damaging bikes ransacking houses. The news article is completely false and fabricated in support of the smugglers and anti national elements. Therefore strongly refuted.
Boxanagar is located on Indo-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district and is notorious for smuggling, infiltration of BD national and Rohingyas. Off late it has been observed that smuggling of sugar from India to Bangladesh has increased many fold . During this year 5,20,625 kgs of sugar has been seized by BSF in different operations and at different locations.
In this particular incident, On 22nd December 2023 at 2010 hrs BSF troops on duty observed some bikers carrying sugar bags approaching Indo-Bangladesh border fence. On being challenged bikers fled away leaving their bikes and sugar bags. BSF seized 350 kgs Sugar and five bikes from the spot. Seized sugar and motorbikes were handed over to Customs Officials and Police Station – Kalamchera respectively and a complaint in this regard had been lodged in Police Station – Kalamchera.
Hence, report published about “BSF jawans from Boxanagar BOP vandalized the parked motorbikes, threatened and assaulted one of the family members of Sudeb das and took the damaged motorbikes to the Boxanagar BOP”, is false, fabricated and far from the truth. Such reports without factual verification of the facts not only affects the morale of troops committed to the duty round the clock but also give an impetus to nefarious elements besides questioning the intentions of the newspaper. Such reports do not align well with the standards of journalism of a reputed media. It is pertinent to mention that, BSF is fully committed to maintain the sanctity of the International border . It is reiterated that BSF always maintain high standards of professionalism, commitment to the duty and service to the Nation, with an aim to provide a crime free environment to the Border population.
It is also pertinent to mention that, apropos BSF personnel are performing their duty in Tripura’s one of the most smuggling prone areas where smugglers/nefarious elements never miss a chance to blame and defame the BSF.
