Omkam Aviations Plans To Bring 50 Russian Aircraft To India.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, 13th of September, 2026 : Omkam Aviations is planning to bring 50 Russian IL-114-300 aircraft to India, with plans to assemble and eventually manufacture the planes in the country.

The company has signed a Letter of Intent with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). The first batch will have six aircraft, followed by the setting up of an assembly line in India under a technology transfer deal.

Omkam Aviations Managing Director Peeyush Kumar Aggarwal said the first stage of the project will need around ₹1,500 crore. Russia’s Sberbank has also given in principle support for the financing.

The IL-114-300 can carry around 66 to 68 passengers and is made to work well on shorter runways. This makes it suitable for smaller cities and regional airports.

The company is looking at routes that could give cities such as Meerut, Noida and Agra better direct connections. Aditya Aggarwal, Executive Director of Omkam Aviations, said passengers could travel directly to cities like Mumbai instead of first going to Delhi to catch another flight.

The plan has also received support from Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, who said aircraft like the IL-114-300 could help connect the growing number of regional airports in India.

Govind Gupta, Co-Founder and Director of Omkam Aviations, told ANI that localising aircraft manufacturing and maintenance infrastructure could strengthen industrial and strategic ties between the two countries.

The company expects the project to create an ecosystem around aircraft manufacturing, maintenance and skills development.

Gupta also linked the initiative to the government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives.

The aircraft also caught attention after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin viewed its model at the UAC booth during the event.
