Dharmanagar, Tripura, 23rd of April 2026 : Overloaded stone-laden dumpers have become a growing menace in the town, turning into a source of fear for residents. Every evening, the reckless movement of multiple heavy dumpers has been causing distress among people in Dharmanagar and nearby areas. As a result, minor and major accidents are occurring frequently, increasing public concern.

On Wednesday night, April 22, a serious accident took place in the town. A stone-laden dumper (No. TR05K1858) collided violently with a scooter (No. TR056129). The scooter rider was critically injured and fell onto the road.Eyewitnesses immediately informed the Dharmanagar Fire Department. Fire personnel rushed to the spot, rescued the injured individual, and took him to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. The injured person has been identified as Harimohan Debnath, a resident of Padmapur area in the town. His condition is reported to be critical.
The incident has triggered widespread anger among local residents. They allege that the Dharmanagar Traffic Department is mainly focused on issuing fines to small vehicles and bike riders, while taking little to no strict action against overloaded stone-carrying dumpers that continue to operate freely.According to locals, traffic police are visible only at a few selected points in the town, allowing heavy vehicles to move unchecked in other areas. A section of residents has demanded immediate intervention from the administration, stricter monitoring of the traffic department’s functioning, and firm regulation on the movement of overloaded dumpers. The incident has once again exposed the weaknesses in the town’s traffic management system and raised serious concerns about public safety. Now, it remains to be seen whether the administration will take decisive action.
