Road Repaired With Public Funds Damaged Within Just 15 Days, PWD Faces Questions.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of July 2026 : A road repaired using government funds has reportedly developed damage at several locations within just 15 days of the completion of the work, triggering public outrage in the Dharmanagar Municipal Council area. Local residents have alleged that the use of substandard construction materials and poor workmanship caused the newly repaired road surface to deteriorate rapidly, with the top layer peeling off and potholes appearing in several places.

According to official records, a total of ₹15,62,494 was allocated for the road’s repair and maintenance. The work was awarded to a local contractor. The work order included road patching, sealing, resurfacing, brickbats, rubbish filling, surface drains, protection works, and other related development activities.

Residents claim that in many stretches, old broken stones were used along with only a small quantity of new construction materials to fill potholes before applying a surface layer. As a result, several portions of the road have deteriorated again within a short period of the work being completed. However, they also acknowledged that new stones were used in a few sections.Although the official work order allowed 120 days for completion of the project, the road began showing signs of damage just 15 days after the work was completed, raising serious concerns about the quality of construction.

The tender documents also indicate that the contract was awarded at approximately 35.62% below the estimated cost.Local residents have demanded an impartial investigation into the quality of the construction materials used, the standard of workmanship, and the supervision carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD). They have further called for legal action against the contractor and the responsible officials if the allegations are found to be true.
