Agartala, Tripura, 17th of September, 2025 : Dr. K. Sashi Kumar, IFS, Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, is driving transformative change in rural livelihoods through his proactive leadership. Since assuming charge three months ago, he has given new momentum to the Tripura Rural Economic Development and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), resulting in over 85 agriculture-based Producer Groups (PGs) actively implementing field activities—compared to only one PG in the last two years before his tenure.

A cornerstone of this progress is the teaming-up approach led by Mrs. Sonali Laskar, IBSI Specialist, TRESP, who successfully brought livelihood sector experts from agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, animal resources, and other allied departments onto a unified platform.
Dr. Kumar’s recent visit on 17th September 2025 to the Laxmi Agriculture PG at Jalema VC, Killa RD Block, Gomati District, further demonstrated his hands-on commitment. He engaged directly with tribal women farmers who, for the first time, cultivated Bottle gourd seedlings using soil-less media. The farmers expressed their excitement and optimism for improved income prospects through this innovation.

The visit was smoothly facilitated by Mr. Subrata Shib, Agri. Specialist, TRESP, along with other key field officials.Subrata Shib’s continuous field movement and unwavering dedication have become a remarkable milestone in the agriculture sector of the project, ensuring that scientific knowledge reaches remote tribal communities and empowering them to adopt sustainable farming practices. Dr. Kumar appreciated the team’s commitment and encouraged further efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and livelihood security.

Through the inspiring leadership of Dr.Kumar and Mrs. Laskar’s integrative approach, along with Subrata Shib’s relentless field engagement, TRESP is setting new benchmarks in agricultural development and livelihood enhancement across tribal areas.
