State Level International Women’s Day Observed At Agartala.

Agartala, Tripura, 13th of March 2025 : With the initiative of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Government of Tripura observed State Level International Women’s Day at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala, Tripura on Thursday (13th March, 2025). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing at the celebration ceremony of International Women’s Day Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the State Government is giving special importance to protecting the rights of women. In this regard, making women self-reliant will not only increase their confidence but also reduce the level of various forms of violence against them. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has given special importance to the development of the socio-economic condition of women and their self-empowerment. The state government is also working in that direction.

“The Government is always trying to combat crimes against women. According to the latest data of NCRB, Tripura ranks 8th in the country in terms of physical assault and crimes against women. Keeping in mind the needs of mothers and children, a plan has been taken to build a 100-bed mother and child unit at GB Hospital.”, Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister also added, the State Government has formed 53,623 self-help groups in the State under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) for the financial empowerment of women. In the financial year 2017-18, only Rs 32.67 crore was provided to the self-help groups in the state. There, Rs 714.16 crore has been provided since the financial year 2018-19. As a result of the efforts of the present government, the famous and traditional attire Risa, Matabari Pera, the prasad of Tripureshwari Temple ; the iconic products from the State of Tripura prepared by self-help group, have received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag

At the State Level International Women’s Day event, 21 women and 3 self-help groups were awarded by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education for their excellence in their respective work. Out of these, 3 Anganwadi workers and 3 Anganwadi helpers were awarded certificates, mementos and cheques by the Chief Minister. 3 CDPOs and 3 ICDS supervisors were also awarded. The Chief Minister presented certificates and mementos to them as awards. 2 women police constables and one woman SPO were given trophies.

On this auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day 2025 Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, Tapas Roy, delivered the welcome speech. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Chairperson of the Tripura Child Rights Protection Commission, Jayanti Debbarma, Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, Labour Minister Tinku Roy, Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, Tapan Kumar Das, West Tripura District, District Magistrate and Collector of Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP) for West Tripura District Dr. Kiran Kumar K and may other dignitaries were present in the events. The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission Jharna Debbarma delivered the vote of thanks.
