Strict Regulations In Dharmanagar By-Election, Administration Focuses On Transparent Voting.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 17th of March, 2026 : Ahead of the upcoming by-election in the 56- Dharmanagar constituency, the Election Commission of India has issued several important guidelines to ensure a more transparent, impartial, and credible electoral process. In this context, a press conference was held on Tuesday at the conference hall of the District Magistrate’s office in North Tripura, Dharmanagar.Present at the press conference were District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Devyani Chowdhury, along with other administrative officials.The administration informed that strict regulations have been imposed on candidates with criminal backgrounds to enhance transparency in the electoral system. To ensure smooth conduct of polling, preparations have been made to deploy Electronic Voting Machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail systems at every polling station. Adequate numbers of machines have already been arranged.The Superintendent of Police stated that the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect following the announcement of the election. This imposes specific restrictions on political parties and candidates to ensure the election process remains free from undue influence.

The District Magistrate emphasized that the administration has taken comprehensive measures to ensure a free, fair, and participatory election. Security arrangements have been strengthened, and various initiatives have been undertaken to raise voter awareness.According to the election schedule: Last date for filing nominations: March 23 Scrutiny of nominations: March 24 Withdrawal of candidature: March 26Polling: April 9 (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM)Counting of votes: May 4 Completion of election process: May 6.The Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency has a total of 46,143 voters, including 22,380 male voters and 23,763 female voters. There are 913 new voters, comprising 488 males and 425 females. The District Magistrate highlighted the importance of new voters as a vital component of democracy. Workshops have already been conducted to raise awareness among young voters.There will be a total of 55 polling stations, including 32 in urban areas and 23 in rural areas. There are 42 polling locations in total, with 12 sector officers and 11 police sectors deployed.To strengthen security, several naka check points have been set up in key areas such as Yakubnagar, Kalikapur, Jail Road, and Sonarorbasa Bridge. Additionally, 20% of polling stations will be managed by women, and 11 theme-based polling stations will follow ‘Green Protocol’ initiatives.

The administration has urged all political parties and citizens to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct. Officials expressed confidence that with strict monitoring and proactive administrative measures, the by-election will be conducted in a transparent, impartial, and acceptable manner.
