Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of July 2026 : A series of theft incidents in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, has become a growing concern. This time, thieves targeted the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Miscreants allegedly stole the copper piping connected to an air conditioner installed within the office premises, triggering concern among the administration.

According to reports, the copper pipeline of an air conditioning unit inside the office compound was removed and stolen during the night. The theft came to light the following morning when office staff noticed the missing pipeline. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage installed on the premises, officials found that the entire incident had been captured on camera. Police are now trying to identify the culprits using the footage.

Speaking about the incident, Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debjani Chowdhury said that the matter had already been reported to Dharmanagar Police Station. She stated, “The police have been informed and will take appropriate action. Although the office complex has night security personnel, it is not possible for one or a few guards to monitor the entire premises at the same time. The complex has multiple entry points and directions, making it difficult to keep watch over every area simultaneously.”

The incident has once again raised serious questions about the security arrangements at government offices. Residents are expressing concern over how thieves managed to enter a government office compound and carry out the theft despite the recent rise in burglary cases across the town.Police have launched an investigation, and the administration hopes that the CCTV footage will help identify the accused and bring them to justice at the earliest.
