Dharmanagar, Tripura, 17th of March, 2026 : On November 24, 2025, a tragic incident took place in the Shonichhara Nadiyapur area under Dharmanagar subdivision in North Tripura. While returning home after school, 8-year-old Amrit Sinha, a Class II student of a local school, lost his life in a brutal attack that occurred beneath a रेलवे track. His mother, Bijoya Sinha (28), was seriously injured in the same incident. The shocking created widespread outrage across the area. Based on a complaint filed by Bijoya Sinha, police from Churaibari Police Station arrested two accused—Madan Gopal Sinha and Tapas Sinha, both residents of Nadiyapur.According to the family, the attack is linked to long-standing domestic disputes. Bijoya’s relative and brother-in-law, Prabir Sinha, alleged that marital conflicts began about six months after her marriage with Arun Kanti Sinha, reportedly over issues related to an extramarital affair. Bijoya was later driven out of her husband’s house, and the attack took place while divorce proceedings were ongoing.

The family suspects Arun Kanti Sinha to be the main conspirator behind the attack. However, the police have not yet confirmed this in their investigation.
Although the two arrested accused were initially held in police remand at Dharmanagar District Correctional Facility, they were later released on bail, according to the family. Since then, Bijoya Sinha and her family have allegedly been receiving regular threats. They claim they have been warned of dire consequences, including threats to life, if they pursue further legal action. In a state of distress, the family approached the District Magistrate of North Tripura. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the administration has provided police protection to the family. They have reportedly been under security cover for the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, the family has expressed dissatisfaction with the government- appointed lawyer who was previously handling the case. They have now appointed High Court advocate Debdas Bakshi to represent them. The family has also appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha, urging a fair and speedy investigation and strict punishment for the culprits. The incident has sparked anger among local residents as well. The victim’s family continues to fight for justice, demanding swift trial and exemplary punishment for those responsible.Notably, since the horrific incident, Bijoya Sinha’s family has been relentlessly seeking justice for the death of the child and the brutal attack on his mother. Now, all eyes are on how quickly justice will be delivered through the investigation and legal process.
