Agartala, Tripura, 30th of October 2025 : The three-day North Eastern Circle Postal Stamp Exhibition ‘TRIPEX-2025’ began on Wednesday (29th October, 2025) at Nazrul Kalakshetra and the Exhibition Hall of Lalit Kala Akademi in Agartala, Tripura. Postal stamps are not limited to the exchange of letters alone; they reflect a country’s art, culture, heritage, and history. With this theme, an exhibition showcasing such heritage-rich postal stamps has been organized at Nazrul Kalakshetra and the Lalit Kala Akademi Exhibition Hall in Agartala. The exhibition will continue till October 31.

At the inaugural ceremony held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, the chief guest was Maharaj Kumari Pragya Debbarman, Convener of the Tripura Chapter of the Indian National Art and Cultural Heritage. Other dignitaries present included Joseph Lalrinsailova, Regional Postmaster General (Region No. 1, North Eastern Zone), Rajesh Jhunjhunwala, registered jury of the Postal Department and member of the Philatelic Congress of India, and Rahul Ganguly, President of the Prayagraj Philatelic Society of Lucknow, among others. In his welcome address, Regional Postmaster General Joseph Lalrinsailova said that stamp collection is a special hobby. He expressed hope that such a postal stamp exhibition would be both educational and informative.

Rajesh Jhunjhunwala, member of the Philatelic Congress of India and jury, remarked that postal stamps reflect a country’s heritage and cultural traditions. He hoped that this exhibition would generate more interest among students in philately. Rahul Ganguly, President of the Prayagraj Philatelic Society, encouraged students to take an active interest in stamp collection. He said that the history of the entire world is reflected through postal stamps, describing the exhibition as a true festival of culture and knowledge.

In her address as the chief guest, Maharaj Kumari Pragya Debbarman, Convener of the Tripura Chapter of the Indian National Art and Cultural Heritage, said that philately does not merely mean collecting stamps — it is a significant journey that symbolizes heritage and tradition. She mentioned that members of the royal family, especially the late Maharaja Kirit Bikram Debbarman, were also avid stamp collectors. She further noted that the descendants of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya introduced revenue stamps and postal stamps as part of Tripura’s administrative and governance system. She described the TRIPEX-2025 postal stamp exhibition as an important initiative.

Later, at the Lalit Kala Akademi Hall, Maharaj Kumari Pragya Debbarman formally inaugurated the postal stamp exhibition, where numerous rare stamps from India and abroad were displayed. The first postage stamp issued by India after independence was also showcased.

During the event, postcards featuring photographs of the flora and fauna of the North Eastern states under the North Eastern Circle, along with images of Tripura’s Ujjayanta Palace, were released. In addition, a special commemorative postal stamp was also issued. The event featured a variety of competitions for students, including a stamp exhibition, poster drawing, letter-writing, letterbox art, and a philatelic quiz. Students from various schools across Agartala city participated enthusiastically in these events.

This year’s exhibition includes around 2,000 stamps displayed across 130 frames. Special emphasis has been given to Tripura’s Neermahal and Unakoti in the exhibition. Participants showcased their personal stamp collections, and a panel of judges evaluated and awarded prizes to the best exhibits.

Students, youth, teachers, and general visitors from different districts of the North Eastern states — including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh — took part in the exhibition.
