Dharmanagar, Tripura, 11th of September, 2026 : Residents of Ward No. 4 under Rajnagar Gram Panchayat are growing increasingly angry over the prolonged lack of drinking water. They allege that water supply to their area from the Jal Jeevan Mission pump located in Ward No. 6 of Yubaranagar Block has remained disrupted for nearly three months.
According to local residents, an important pipeline connected to the pump has been out of order for a long time. Although the matter has been reported to the concerned department several times, no permanent solution has been found.Frustrated by the water crisis, women from Ward No. 4 staged a protest on Thursday. Gathering in front of the pump house, they expressed their anger in an unusual manner by hanging plates there.

They alleged that repeated problems were occurring because substandard pipes had been installed during the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission project. They claimed that whenever one section of the pipeline is repaired, another section develops cracks within a few days. As a result, water is being wasted in some places while supply is disrupted elsewhere. The protesters also spoke with pump operator Debashish Debnath. He assured them that the matter would be brought to the attention of senior authorities and that water supply would be restored soon after repairing the pipeline. However, the protesters are not fully satisfied with the assurance. They have kept the key to the pump in their possession. They demanded not just temporary repairs but a permanent solution to the problem. They warned that if water supply is not restored soon, they will launch a larger agitation in the coming days.
