Agartala, Tripura, 3rd May, 2025 : Honโble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday (3rd May, 2025) chaired a meeting with Secretary Transport & others officials to review the various activities, development projects and various issues of Transport Department.

The Transport Department is currently implementing various projects worth Rs 150 crore across the state. However, the implementation of these projects must be done with quality and on time. In the coming days, the Transport Department is planning to bring more new projects to the people of the state. Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury said at a review meeting of the Transport Department at the State Guest House Conference Hall today. The review meeting discussed in detail the issue of ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment’ 2024-25.
This includes construction of various motor stands, construction of district transport buildings, celebration of road safety week, regional driving testing center, e-challan, vehicle and charioteer platform, inter-state bus terminal, good samaritan, construction of commissionerate building etc.

Taking part in the discussion at the review meeting, the Transport Minister said that the Transport Department is directly or indirectly linked to other departments. In the meeting, the officials of the concerned departments were asked to maintain the quality of all the projects being carried out across the state and complete the work on time. So that there is no negligence anywhere. He said that the Transport Department and the Traffic Department observe Road Safety Week every year to make the public aware. This public awareness program should be taken to the grassroots level including schools and colleges.
He said that in the past, the central government had launched a scheme called Good Samaritan ‘ to save lives by rescuing the injured in an accident with the help of local people. In this case, the central government would give 5 thousand rupees in cash to the person who would take the injured to the hospital. The current central government has renamed this scheme as ‘Rah Veer’ scheme. In order to reach more people and to take the accident victim to the hospital, the central government has increased the amount from 5 thousand rupees to 25 thousand rupees.
However, since many people in the state are not aware of the โRah-Veerโ Scheme ‘ scheme at present, the district transport officer and the police should make the people more aware of this. He said that the transport department has introduced a cashless system. In the last financial year, the transport department collected a revenue of Rs 155 crore. After the introduction of the cashless system, transparency has come in it. Revenue has increased. Regarding e-challan, the transport minister said that the State Bank of India, the traffic department, NIC, transport and other departments are working together to create a new SOP and think about how to make e-challan more transparent.

Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer,PWD Anup Kumar Das, District Transport Officer, District Traffic Officer, District Administration representatives, NIC, Rural Development, IT, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Tripura Housing and Construction Department officials ย and many others remained present in the meeting.
