Agartala, Tripura, 2nd of October, 2026 : The Transport Department, Government of Tripura, strongly condemns the alleged harassment of air passengers and obstruction of an app-based Uber auto-rickshaw at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala, reportedly on the night of 30 September 2026.
Passengers were allegedly prevented from using a duly authorised app-based transport service, contrary to the Government’s commitment to safe, convenient, transparent and passenger-friendly transport. The service was formally inaugurated on 3 September 2026 in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister for Transport, with clear instructions that no individual, group or transport operator should obstruct its lawful operation or harass passengers.
No syndicate, association, group or individual has the right to take the law into their own hands or prevent passengers from choosing lawful transportation. Intimidating drivers, obstructing vehicles, preventing passengers from boarding or disrupting lawful services will be dealt with strictly in accordance with law.

Police Action and Departmental Enquiry
Two persons were arrested by the Airport Police Station after the matter came to the authorities’ notice, and their interrogation is underway.
A senior-level joint team from the Transport and Police Departments visited MBB Airport, the incident site and the Airport Police Station to ascertain the facts and review the action taken. The police authority has stated that legal action will follow. The Transport Department has directed that the driving licence and registration of the defaulting auto driver/owner be suspended, subject to due process of law.
Zero Tolerance for Passenger Harassment
The Government is promoting modern, technology-enabled and choice-based transport services, including app-based cab and auto services at MBB Airport. Passengers must be free to choose lawful transport without fear, intimidation or interference.
The Transport Department will not permit any unauthorised monopoly over airport passenger transport. It appeals to all operators and driver associations to maintain discipline, cooperate with the authorities and protect Tripura’s image as a safe, hospitable and passenger-friendly State.
Concerned officials have been directed to closely monitor the situation and prevent recurrence.
The Government reiterates its firm commitment to protecting every passenger’s rights, safety and dignity and ensuring that all lawful transport services operate freely and without intimidation.
