Tripura Government Takes Steps To Restore Electricity Generation At Gomati Hydroelectric Project : Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Agartala, Tripura, 10th of October, 2026 : The Gomati Hydroelectric Project was severely damaged during the 2024 floods, causing power generation to drop to almost zero. The state government has now taken an initiative to resume power generation at the project. It is expected that the project will be able to generate between 12 and 15 megawatts of electricity in the coming days.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath address while inaugurating a one-day awareness programme on dam safety at Tirthamukh on Friday (9th October, 2026). The programme was organised by Tripura Power Generation Limited with technical support from the National Dam Safety Authority.

He stated that Tripura’s only hydroelectric power project was commissioned 54 years ago and that the Gomati Dam has made a significant contribution to the state’s economy. The dam plays a vital role in irrigation, drinking water supply, water transport and the development of the tourism industry.

The Minister further stated that the state government would take initiatives to develop more small-scale hydroelectric projects and expand solar power generation across Tripura. He emphasised that ensuring the safety of river dams is essential to protect the lives and property of people living in river basins.

Students of the school performed an awareness drama, followed by the traditional Hojagiri dance and other cultural performances. During the visit, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath toured the Gomati Waterfall and Gomati Dam and gathered detailed information about the dam and its various aspects.
