Khowai, Tripura, 10th of August, 2026 : With the initiative of Tripura Working Journalists Association’s organized Annual conference at the Kalyanpur Shelter House on Sunday (9th August, 2026).
The conference was attended by journalists from different parts of the district and was conducted in a festive atmosphere. The discussion focused on enhancing journalistic standards, professional responsibilities, journalists’ rights and welfare, ethical reporting, and strengthening the organization.

The conference was attended by MLA of Kalyanpur–Pramodenagar Assembly Constituency Pinaki Das Chowdhury and Khowai Assembly Constituency MLA Nirmal Biswas as the chief guests. Special guests included Tripura Working Journalists Association (TWJA) State Committee Secretary Sunil Debnath, State President Bijoy, Kalyanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashish Sarkar, along with state and district-level leaders of the organization and journalists from various media houses across the district.
At the beginning of the programme, the guests were felicitated with flowers and traditional uttariyas. The conference was then formally inaugurated by lighting a ceremonial lamp. In their welcome address, the leaders of the organization emphasised the importance of unity among journalists, enhancing professional skills, and delivering objective news in the public interest.
Addressing at the conference MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury said that the media plays a vital role in a democracy. He stated that journalists help guide society in the right direction by delivering truthful and impartial news. He assured his full cooperation in addressing the legitimate demands and concerns of journalists.
MLA Nirmal Biswas, said that the media is the mirror of society. He stated that the responsible and fearless role of journalists contributes to the development of society and further strengthens democracy.
Addressing at the event State Committee Secretary Sunil Debnath in detail about the professional security of journalists, expansion of the organization, and various welfare initiatives. State President Bijoy called upon journalists to maintain unity, mutual cooperation, and work towards making the organization more dynamic. Kalyanpur Police Station OC Ashish Sarkar emphasised the importance of maintaining coordination between journalists and the administration while working in the public interest.
A new 11-member Khowai District Committee was formed unanimously. Sajal Deb was elected as the President, Bimalendu Das as the Secretary, and Subhankar Dey as the Treasurer. The names of the other members of the newly formed committee were also approved at the meeting.
The newly formed committee members expressed their commitment to safeguarding journalists’ interests, enhancing professional standards, expanding welfare activities, and making the organization stronger and more effective.
The annual conference of the Tripura Working Journalists Association’s Khowai District Committee concluded successfully after a day-long programme featuring various discussions, interactions, and organizational activities.
