Dharmanagar, Tripura, 13th of June 2026 : The passing of Comrade Faizur Rahman (79), former member of the CPI(M) Tripura State Committee, former State Council member of the All India Kisan Sabha, former Chairman of the State Haj Committee and Wakf Board, and former Labour and Forest Minister in the Left Front Government, has cast a deep shadow of grief across Tripura’s political and social circles. He breathed his last at 1:10 a.m. yesterday.

Comrade Faizur Rahman was a true people’s leader who earned a special place in the hearts of ordinary citizens through his honesty, simplicity, and unwavering commitment to his ideals throughout his long political career. He consistently raised his voice, both inside and outside the Legislative Assembly, on issues concerning public welfare and the interests of the common people. His courageous, determined, and uncompromising role in various mass movements will remain an enduring chapter in the history of Tripura’s democratic struggles.
Until the very end of his political life, he remained devoted to Leftist ideals and values. His contribution to inspiring younger generations with progressive and revolutionary consciousness was remarkable. Various sections of society have expressed the view that his death marks an irreparable loss to the democratic and progressive movements of the state.On Saturday, leaders from different political parties, administrative officials, well-wishers, and a large number of ordinary citizens gathered to pay their final respects.

Among those present were Dharmanagar Sub- Divisional Magistrate Devyani Chowdhury, North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, the Additional Superintendent of Police of North Tripura, local MLA Yadav Lal Nath, MLA Islam Uddin, MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, along with several other administrative officials and leaders of the Congress Party.Also present were State Secretariat members Amitabha Dutta and Rajendra Reang, along with several prominent Left leaders. His last rites were performed with full state honours.
Deep condolences have been extended to his bereaved wife, son and daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, family members, longtime political colleagues, comrades-in-arms, and countless well-wishers.His associates and followers have pledged to carry forward Comrade Faizur Rahman’s unfinished dreams and people- oriented work. His ideals, struggles, and profound love for humanity will continue to serve as a guiding light for society and politics in the years to come.
