Dharmanagar, Tripura, 12th of May 2026 : Central trade unions along with several mass organizations observed “National Demand Day” in Dharmanagar on Tuesday, highlighting various demands concerning workers’ rights and welfare. A colorful rally was organized from the CPI(M) North District office in Dharmanagar subdivision and marched through different parts of the town.

Workers, employees, and supporters participating in the rally raised slogans demanding protection of labour rights and strongly criticized price rise and the Central Government’s labour policies.Addressing a brief meeting after the rally, the speakers alleged that the implementation of the new labour codes would severely undermine workers’ rights. They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the labour codes and related rules. The speakers also called for an increase in MGNREGA wages, more working days under the scheme, and speedy clearance of pending dues.
They further raised concerns over the rehabilitation and financial assistance for families affected by recent storms and hailstorms. The leaders stated that larger movements would be organized in the coming days in the interest of common people.Among those present at the programme were Amitabha Dutta, Islam Uddin, and Bijita Nath along with other party leaders and workers.
