13,536 Consumers Registered Online In Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Project : Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Agartala, Tripura, 4th of May, 2025 : Hon’ble Power, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath held a press conference at Civil Secretariat, Agartala on Sunday (4th May, 2025).

In the press conference Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that Under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana there is a plan to install solar power plants in 50,000 consumer homes by March 2027. 13,536 Consumers have already registered online to take advantage of this project. Out of these, solar power projects have been installed in 266 homes. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said this at a press conference in his office at the Secretariat today. At the press conference, the Power Minister highlighted various plans and initiatives of the government in the meeting.

“Modern life is not possible without electricity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working on the power system as a priority area. Therefore, he has emphasized on renewable energy keeping the future in mind. With special emphasis on the use of solar power, the Prime Minister has launched the Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana. The government has taken initiatives to implement this project in the state as well. So far, 184 consumers in the state have received government subsidies by taking advantage of this project. 95 have received loans of Rs 1 crore 75 lakh 66 thousand from banks for setting up this project. By setting up this plant, consumers will be able to generate electricity at their homes, save money on electricity bills and also earn additional income by sending the excess electricity generated to the electricity corporation through off-grid.” Power Minister said.

“Among them, 70 people have earned income from the electricity generated through their solar. Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has paid 30 thousand 902 rupees in the bank accounts of these 70 people. In the case of domestic customers, there is a facility to install this project up to 10 kW. In this case, government subsidy up to 3 kW will be available. In the case of housing apartments/residential welfare associations, a maximum of 3 kW per family can install a plant up to 500 kW. In this case, the Government subsidy per kW is 19,800 rupees. He urged everyone to take advantage of this scheme.”, Power Minister added.

“The Power Minister said at a press conference that currently 19 MW of electricity is being generated from Rokhia. With the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank, the 63 MW open cycle gas turbine there will be converted into a 120 MW combined cycle gas turbine. As a result, 120 MW of electricity can be generated without taking additional gas. This work will start very soon. Talks are underway with NHPC to repair and modernize the Gomati Hydropower Project.”, Power minister added

The Power Minister also added that there are plans to set up 45 electric vehicle charging stations in different parts of the state. Apart from this, there are plans to install underground cable lines, covered conductors, LT AB cables and smart meters with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank. There are plans to set up a total of 100 MW solar power projects in the homes of 80,000 financially weak families whose monthly electricity consumption is less than 100 units. There are also plans to set up solar power plants in all government institutions in the state. He said that the maximum demand for electricity in the state is 370 MW during the summer. The state has a power system of 372 MW to meet this demand.
