The 15th Convocation of NIT Agartala held on Saturday (12th November 2022) at Visvesvaraya Auditorium of the Institute.
Padma Shriย ย Prof. (Dr.) Deepak B Phatak, Former Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay and Former Chairperson, NIT Agartala as the Chief Guest of the function and delivered the Convocation Address.
Er. Amit Bhattacharjee, Managing Director, Accenture Technology, Bangalore grace the occasion as Guest of Honour.
Prof. Harish Kumar Sharma, Chairperson, Board of Governors and Director, NIT Agartala ย preside over the function & awarded the degrees to the students.
Presently, around 4,800 students are studying at NIT Agartala. There are 9 (nine) branches in B. Tech. Level, 23(twenty three) specializations in Engineering at Masterโs Level and 4 branches in Dual Degree Level. The institute also offers MBA program, MCA program, M. Sc. Programs and Doctoral Programs. At present, 305 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. in various fields.
In this convocation, more than 50 Ph.D. Scholars, 161 M. Tech, 10 MCA, 34 MBA, 22 M. Sc, 731 B.Tech, 43 BS, 15 BT Students, 32 BSMS and 10 BTMT students received their degrees.
NIT Agartala is contributing academically at par with the top technical Institutes of the country. In the year 2022-23, NIT Agartala fraternity has published more than 285 research papers in prestigious Science Citation Indexed (SCI) and Scopus Indexed journals and other prestigious Indexed journals. International Conferences and International workshops were also organized in the year of 2022. It is noteworthy that, NIT Agartala also possesses good record in terms of achievements related to patenting: 10 patents filed, 15 patents published and 9 patents granted.
NIT Agartala has registered in the NCTE portal for starting of 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Program from the academic session 2023-24 under MHSS Department.
A dual degree course (BT-MT) in Computational Mathematics has been started from 2021- 2022 session, also 2(two) new M. Tech courses in Mechanical Engineering (Material Sciences) and Computer Science & Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) each has been started. Syllabus of B.Tech, M. Tech, M. Sc and MBA courses are revised as per NBA pattern.
The institute has a special Center for Career Development that plans all of the students’ training and placement opportunities in the workplace. Beside this, the center conducts many workshops, webinars, mock-training / mock interview through online mode/virtual mode.
Last year, B. Tech students were offered 611 positions by organisations and companies like EIL, OTPC, BEL, Saint Gobain, Google, Amazon, L&T Group, Capgemini, Nokia, Wipro, Oracle, Virtusa, Infosys, Reliance Industries Ltd., Vedanta Ltd, Tata Group, DXC Technology, Alstom, Accenture, Byju’s, Optum, CGI, and more. The placements have relented the institute with proud statistics from the past year (Academic year 2021-2022) with an outstanding percentage of around 90% of total eligible students of being placed in organizations of high repute.
This year too, since July 2022, the turnout of various organizations and companies of repute have been very high in our institute. Companies which have already visited us in this short span of time are organizations like Google, Amazon, O9 Solution, Infoedge, Capegemini, Infosys, Wipro, Brane, Amdocs, OLX, PhonePay etc., and during this year students have received highest package of 43.14 LPA and the average Salary package as on date is 12 LPA. The average salary in CSE Department till date is 19.28 LPA. The average salary in Circuit branches till date is 15.56 LPA and for other core engineering department is 6.6 LPA and above.
During the academic year 2021-22, students of the Institute have undergone internship in very reputed organizations. To name a few, Google, Intuit, Intel, Wipro, Cairn Oil, Saint Gobain, IITs, ONGC, IOCL, NEEPCO etc.Last year, the internships were arranged nearly to 90% of students. It also facilitates the students to learn new things as per contemporary needs beyond academic inputs.
NIT Agartala is ranked within 100 top institutions for the last five consecutive years. In this year 2022, the institute secured 80th position among the engineering institutes in India as revealed by NIRF ranking system, Ministry of Education.
First ever incubation centre, offered by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was established at NIT Agartala (2018).The Skill Development Training Centre (SDTC) of the Institute is functioning well. The Center was set up in collaboration with the Directorate of Skill Development, Govt. of Tripura and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana. It provides technical skill based training for enhancing the knowledge and efficiency of the rural people on the use of technology.
NIT Agartala organizes various academic programs throughout the year. MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses), an initiative under National Mission on Education through Information Communication Technology, will be mapped to the institute course structure. Implementation of Bengali as an optional medium of instruction under NEP programme has been taken into consideration for 1st year students of CE, ME & EE departments.
Some of the construction works are in progress includes construction of 200 Capacity Girls hostel, extension of height of the boundary wall, works in seminar hall, few roadworks & road construction and up gradation of 2-storied building (Bio-Engineering Building) adjacent to Knowledge Centre.
Some of the project works are going to start very soon. These projects are Construction of Balance Work of Swimming Pool, Construction of Lecture Hall Complex and Integrated Water Supply. The approximate cost for the Construction of Balance Work of Swimming Pool is Rs. 8 crores, approximate cost for Construction of Lecture Hall Complex is Rs.31 crores and cost for Integrated Water Supply is nearly 12 crores.
NIT Agartala received approximately Rs. 56 lakhs from different testing and consultancy activities in the year 2021-22. The value of the ongoing projects received by the institute from different organizations is approximately Rs. 373 lakhs. During last five years, a Corpus fund of nearly Rs.100 crore has been generated and earmarked.
The project granted to the Institute includes prestigious one titled โDevelopment of Mathematics Proficiency in NorthโEast Indiaโ under the Scheme โSynergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructureโ (STUTI) of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. Under this program, the Department of Mathematics, NIT Agartala was granted Rs. 2,24,47,000/- (Rupees two crores twenty-four lakh and forty-seven thousand only) per annum for three years. Initially, the project is sanctioned for the one year. The project can be extended for two more years after the successful completion of the 1st year. The faculty members from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering are involved in 04 projects sponsored by ISRO and STIC-NE, ISRO, Government of India.
NIT Agartala has signed MoUs with several Institutions of National and International repute. These include MoUs with IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, University of Durham, UK, RFRF (Research for Resurgence Foundation), SHRM Biotechnologies, Directorate of Information Technology (DIT) , Government of Tripura and so on. Under these MoUs, NIT Agartala has agreed to jointly conduct conference, workshop, short term courses, research work, internship & training, access to laboratory, library and other supporting facilities.
The institute has established Institute Innovation and Startup as a flagship program which is in line with the National Innovation Policy and Startup initiative. The institute is committed to bring research & innovation at the forefront, therefore efforts have been made to establish incubation centre, SDTC etc.
NIT Agartala has seen an excellent growth in its infrastructure & academic activities in recent years. The institute is also showing remarkable performance in the areas of Placement Activities, Academics-Industry Interface, Physical Education & Sports and Alumni Involvement. The institute is equipped with high-end laboratories that ensure an opportunity for the students to work independently. The Institute also has many technical clubs including ACM club, Robotics club, SAE Club,ย Aviation Club, E-Cell etc., to encourage students. ย Beside this, the Institute conducts various awareness programs and other activities throughout the year. Some of these are Yoga Day, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Rashtriya Ekta Divas, National Science Day,ย Hindi Saptah, Study Connect Program etc. Because of its overall performances, the iinstitute has now established itself on a platform of technological excellence in a very short period of time.
