Agartala, Tripura, 9th of July, 2025 : With the initiative of Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA) under the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Government of Tripura organized 1st State Level Organic Buyer Seller Meet at Hotel Polo Towers, Agartala, Tripura on Wednesday (9th July, 2025). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Power, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath has inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing at the inaugural ceremony of 1st State Level Organic Buyer Seller Meet Hon’ble Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the State Government has taken the initiative of organic farming across the state to further boost the state’s economy. Organic farming keeps the soil fertile and healthy.

“Food grains are natural and healthy. Fertilizers, medicines and chemicals are not used in it. People of the world want to eat healthy food. If the use of organic methods increases, this method will bring welfare to the people. Organic farming has become popular in our state today. At present, various fruits, grains and vegetables are being cultivated organically on 25 thousand hectares of land in the State. There are currently 53 farmers’ producer companies in the state. Kali Khasa rice, Harinarayan rice, Pineapples, lemon, ginger, turmeric, coriander pepper, etc. have received organic certification today. Efforts are being made to make pineapple a global brand.”, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare minister added.

Highlighting on the event, the Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare minister remarked that last 3 years, 666 metric tons of pineapple, 52 metric tons of turmeric, 33 metric tons of rice, 7 metric tons of bird’s eye chili, 574 metric tons of ginger, etc. have been exported from the state to places like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Dubai, Oman, etc. Which Farmers cultivating organically are being given subsidies. Queen pineapple has now been included in the GI tag. He said that buyers and sellers conferences have been held in this state before. But this is the first time that an organic conference has been held in the State.

Mission Director of Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA) Rajib Debbarma delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Apurba Roy, APEDA DGM Bidyut Kumar Baruah and Anand Spices Industry MD Ratan Debnath and many other remained present in the event. In the second session of the conference, eminent persons discussed in detail about organic farming, marketing rules of National Cooperative Organics Limited, etc.
