Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of February, 2026 : Protesting what they described as anti-labour policies of the Central and State governments, and demanding the revival of the MGNREGA scheme, the Left Front along with its allied mass organisations organised a massive rally in Dharmanagar town on Monday. The rally was held in the run-up to the nationwide strike scheduled for 12 February.Called by the CPI(M) Dharmanagar Sub -Divisional Committee, the procession marched through the major roads of the town and drew significant public attention.

Present at the rally were CPI(M) State Committee member Amitabha Dutta, CPI(M) North District President Abhijit Dey, CPI(M) Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy, jubarajnagar constituency MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, along with several other senior leaders.During the rally, speakers raised demands for the protection of workers’ rights, assurance of employment and timely wages under the MGNREGA scheme, and curbing rising prices. Alongside the call to “Save the Country,” strong messages of protest against policies alleged to be anti-worker and anti-farmer were voiced. Hundreds of supporters participated in the march, carrying red flags.Leaders and activists from various labour and mass organisations—including CITU, AIKS, TTJSS, AIDWA, Ganamukti Parishad, AITUC, TUCC, AICCTU, All India SSC, DYFI, TYF, SFI and TSU—were present in large numbers. Throughout the march, the streets of Dharmanagar echoed with slogans against the Central and State governments.
Addressing the gathering, speakers alleged that the MGNREGA scheme is being pushed towards collapse, with workers being denied regular employment and timely payment of wages. They also claimed that unchecked price rise has made life increasingly difficult for the common people.Leaders asserted that the movement would be intensified until the rights of workers, farmers and deprived sections are secured, and hinted at larger programmes in the near future. Although the rally concluded peacefully, it generated considerable interest and discussion among the residents of the town.
