Dharmanagar, Tripura, 13th of May 2026 : Alleging non-payment of salaries for the last four months, sanitation workers at the Dharmanagar District Hospital in North Tripura resorted to a work stoppage on Wednesday. The workers, who have been associated with the hospital’s sanitation services since 2014, said that despite repeatedly approaching the authorities, no effective steps have been taken to clear their pending wages. Left with severe financial difficulties, they claimed they were compelled to launch the strike.

According to the sanitation workers, managing their households has become extremely difficult over the past few months. Many are reportedly surviving on loans and borrowed money. The delay in salary payments has created serious problems in meeting daily expenses, children’s education, and medical needs. They also warned of a larger protest movement in the coming days if their dues are not cleared immediately.
Meanwhile, the strike has begun affecting the hospital’s overall services. Cleaning work in various wards, corridors, and toilets has been disrupted, causing concern among patients and their family members. Many expressed anger over the deteriorating health infrastructure and unhygienic conditions in the hospital.Following the incident, hospital authorities reportedly informed the higher departments about the matter. However, no clear assurance has yet been given regarding when the pending salaries will be paid, further deepening uncertainty over the situation.
