Dharmanagar, Tripura, 16th of May 2026 : The menace of overloaded stone-laden dumpers has once again resurfaced in Dharmanagar town in North Tripura district. Despite multiple directives, monitoring efforts, and administrative drives, heavy vehicles continue to move freely through important roads in the town. As a result, roads in several areas are rapidly deteriorating, causing severe inconvenience to residents on a daily basis.Large potholes have appeared on several roads, including the areas near the petrol pump at Rajbari, College Road, roads leading to the hospital, and various market areas. In some places, the asphalt surface has worn away, exposing the raw road underneath, while even light rainfall causes waterlogging and dangerous conditions.

According to local residents, overloaded dumpers have been violating regulations and passing through the town for a long time. The excessive pressure from these vehicles is accelerating road damage. Residents said that the sub-divisional administration had previously issued restrictions on the entry of overloaded dumpers into the town. Although the situation improved temporarily, the old pattern has now returned, raising questions about the effectiveness of administrative monitoring.Allegations have also surfaced that influential groups are allowing heavy vehicles to use city roads in violation of the rules. Near the Dharmanagar petrol pump area, a continuous movement of stone-loaded dumpers can reportedly be seen from morning until late at night.

Locals claim that most of these vehicles are carrying loads beyond the permitted weight limit. This is not only damaging the roads but also increasing the risk of accidents. Motorcyclists, auto-rickshaw (tomtom) drivers, and small vehicle owners are facing the greatest difficulties. Several minor accidents have already been reported.Local business owners are also suffering due to the problem. Dust and mud from the damaged roads are affecting the environment around shops and discouraging customers. In addition, the movement of dumpers frequently causes traffic congestion in market areas. This is impacting school and college students, ambulances carrying patients, and other emergency service vehicles.

According to concerned citizens, occasional administrative drives are not enough to bring a long-term solution. They believe that regular monitoring, strict action against overloaded vehicles, and the designation of alternative routes are necessary to solve the issue permanently. There are also growing demands for the immediate repair of damaged roads.Residents of the town have urged the administration to take effective measures immediately to control the movement of overloaded dumpers within the city. Otherwise, many fear that larger accidents and greater public suffering may occur in the future.
