Scientific Fish Farming Under TRESP Are Driving Livelihood Transformation In Laljuri, North Tripura.

Agartala, Tripura, 16th of May, 2026 : A strong success story is emerging from Laljuri R.D. Block in North Tripura, where Producer Groups under the World Bank-funded TRESP project are demonstrating remarkable progress in sustainable fishery-based livelihoods. Maa Ganga Fishery PG, operating in 16 kani of water area, achieved a production of 1,080 kg of fish, generating a total income of ₹3,24,000 and earning a net profit of ₹1,40,944 after meeting all expenditures, including input and operational costs supported through project-linked credit. Similarly, Prabat Producer Group cultivated 12.5 kani area, producing 900 kg of fish and generating ₹2,70,000 in income with a net profit of ₹1,07,650 after expenditure and repayment obligations.

A field visit conducted on 16 May 2026 by the ADM, North Tripura, along with district and block officials, highlighted the steady progress, dedication of fish farmers, and the tangible economic gains achieved at the grassroots level. The success of these PGs reflects the committed efforts of the District Project Management Unit (DPMU), active field-level coordination by Smt. Songhita Paul, District Fishery Manager (TRESP), and consistent technical guidance from fisheries officials. Notably, the strong leadership and effective monitoring and control by the BDOs have emerged as key driving forces behind this achievement, ensuring timely utilization of loans, efficient cost management, and accountability in operations. This model stands as a testament to how convergence, leadership, and grassroots coordination can transform rural livelihoods and promote sustainable development.
