Tripura Won Three Prestigious Top-Tier Honors At The National Panchayat Awards 2025 ; Panchayat Minister Of Tripura Kishor Barman.

Agartala, Tripura, 7th of June 2026 : Tripura’s Panchayati Raj system has once again achieved remarkable success at the national level. At the National Panchayat Awards 2025, twenty Panchayati Raj Institutions from the state have been honoured with prestigious national awards. The recognition across various categories has added a new dimension to the state’s achievements in grassroots governance and rural development.

Tripura won three prestigious top-tier honors at the National Panchayat Awards 2025, which were conferred by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. These accolades recognize the state’s exemplary grassroots governance, sustainable development, and inclusive administration.

The three award-winning local bodies are detailed below:

1. Sepahijala District Panchayat (Best District Panchayat)

Award Category : Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP)

Position: Rank 1 (National Level)

Details : Sepahijala won the top spot in the country for its exemplary overall performance across multiple Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG) themes, bringing home a financial incentive of ₹5 crore.

2. Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat (Best Healthy Panchayat)

Award Category : Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP)

Position : Rank 1 (Healthy Panchayat Category)

Details : Located in the Unakoti district (Kumarghat block), it received top honors for implementing outstanding healthcare initiatives at the grassroots level, winning a cash prize of ₹1 crore.

3. Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat (Best Women-Friendly Panchayat)

Award Category : Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP)

Position : Rank 3

Details : Located in the West Tripura district (Hezamara block), this Panchayat secured third place nationally for its outstanding commitment to women empowerment and inclusive rural administration, earning a prize of ₹50 lakh.

Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat today (6th June, 2026), Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman highlighted the accomplishment and outlined the developmental progress of the state’s Panchayati Raj system. He stated that Tripura has been consistently making significant strides in decentralization, good governance, participatory development, and the strengthening of rural infrastructure. Highlighting the state’s achievements, Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman said that Sepahijala Zilla Parishad emerged as the national topper in the “Best District Panchayat” category. Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat of Unakoti district secured first place in the “Healthy Panchayat” category, while Bekuchhara Gram Panchayat in West Tripura district earned third place in the “Women-Friendly Panchayat” category.

He added that the recognition comes with significant monetary rewards—₹5 crore for Sepahijala Zilla Parishad, ₹1 crore for Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat, and ₹25 lakh for Bekuchhara Gram Panchayat. According to the Minister, these funds will help accelerate local development projects and strengthen grassroots governance in the award-winning Panchayat areas.

“Tripura had secured seven National Panchayat Awards last year, earning nearly ₹10 crore in financial incentives. This year, the State has once again demonstrated its excellence by winning three national awards, reaffirming its strong performance in grassroots governance and rural development. Another proud achievement for the state, stating that Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat of West Tripura district has received the Silver Award under the National e-Governance Awards. He described the National e-Governance Award as one of the country’s most prestigious recognitions, conferred for the effective use of technology in administration, transparency, accountability, and the efficient delivery of public services.”, Panchayat Minister added

According to the Minister, this honour is not only a testament to the success of the Panchayati Raj system but also a national recognition of Tripura’s overall administrative efficiency and commitment to good governance.

Addressing the press conference, Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman said that the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0 has emerged as a key benchmark for assessing the performance of Panchayati Raj Institutions. The index evaluates Panchayats across a wide range of parameters, including rural development, healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, women’s empowerment, livelihood generation, and the delivery of public services.

The Minister stated that the National Panchayat Awards are now entirely based on performance-driven and data-based assessments. He emphasized that the adoption of objective evaluation criteria has strengthened transparency and accountability in the award selection process, encouraging Panchayats to improve governance and development outcomes at the grassroots level.

Highlighting the occasion, Panchayat Minister remarked that Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0 has emerged as a key benchmark for assessing the performance of Panchayati Raj Institutions. Amidst the other distinguished dignitaries there were Supriya Das Datta, Sheli Bhattacharjee, Sunil Debbarma, and Anurag Sen and other members of the Panchayati Raj administration.
