Agartala, Tripura, 10th of July, 2026 : The Journalists’ Association of Tripura (JAT) extended financial support to 22-month-old Manashree Chowdhury as she continues her fight against the rare genetic disorder, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA Type-1).

The condition of Manashree, the only daughter of Dhruva Chowdhury, a resident of Hapania Chaumuhani Para in Agartala, has drawn widespread attention across Tripura since her diagnosis became public. The news of her struggle has prompted an outpouring of support from people across the state, with various individuals and organizations stepping forward to contribute towards her treatment.
According to doctors, Manushree requires a highly specialized, life-saving injection to treat Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA Type-1). The treatment costs approximately ₹18 crore, an amount far beyond the reach of an ordinary middle-class family.
Amid these challenging circumstances, the Journalists’ Association of Tripura (JAT), affiliated with the National Union of Journalists India (NUJI)—one of India’s largest journalists’ organizations—has stepped forward to support the campaign to save the 22-month-old’s life by extending financial assistance and expressing solidarity with her family.
Today, Journalists’ Association of Tripura (JAT) President Bikram Karmakar and General Secretary Mithun Acharjee visited Manushree’s residence. They met with the child’s mother, assured the family of their continued support, and handed over an initial financial contribution on behalf of the association.
The journalists’ compassionate gesture, which went beyond their professional responsibilities, has been widely appreciated by Manushree’s family as well as people across Tripura, who have praised the association for standing by the child during this critical time.
On behalf of the association, an appeal has been made to people across Tripura and the rest of the country to extend financial support for Manushree’s treatment according to their means. The association emphasized that even small contributions, when combined, can make a significant difference and help give the 22-month-old child a renewed chance at life.
