Felicitation Of Meritorious Students, Differently-Abled Persons And Scout & Guide Volunteers On The Fifth Day Of Kharchi Festival.

Agartala, Tripura, 27th of July, 2026 : The Kharchi Festival and Exhibition this year showcased not only tradition, culture, and communal harmony but also set a remarkable example of promoting education and humanitarian values. On the fifth day of the festival, an inspiring felicitation ceremony was held at the Krishnamala Stage, where financially underprivileged yet meritorious students, differently-abled individuals, and Scout & Guide volunteers were honoured.

Organized by the Kharchi Mela Committee, the event provided financial assistance of 5,000 each to six meritorious students from the Old Agartala Block area who excelled in the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations. In addition, a financially disadvantaged meritorious girl student received 20,000 to support her higher education. Five differently-abled children were also given financial assistance of ₹5,000 each. Furthermore, six Scout and Guide volunteers, who played a significant role in ensuring smooth and disciplined conduct of the Kharchi Festival, were awarded ₹2,000 each in recognition of their dedicated service.

The chief guest of the programme was Ratan Chakraborty, Chairman of the Kharchi Mela Committee and MLA. Addressing the gathering, he said that many talented students face numerous obstacles in pursuing their dreams due to financial constraints. Recognizing this reality, the Kharchi Mela Committee has been extending support to meritorious students during the festival every year. He expressed hope that the recognition and financial assistance would boost the confidence of the students and inspire them to achieve greater success, bringing pride to society and the state.

Earlier in the day, a drawing competition was organized at the Haveli Open Stage by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. In the evening, as on previous days, a colourful cultural programme was held at the Krishnamala Stage. One of the major attractions was the captivating Bihu dance performance by artistes from the North East Zone Cultural Centre, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Artistes from different parts of the state also presented songs, dances, and other cultural performances, adding vibrancy to the festive atmosphere. By promoting academic excellence, extending humanitarian support, and encouraging cultural development, such initiatives have transformed the Kharchi Festival from merely a traditional religious celebration into a positive, responsible, and inspiring platform for social development
