Chief Minister Of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha Inaugurates 54th Tripura State Badminton Championship.

Agartala, Tripura, 9th of August, 2026 : With the initiative of Tripura Badminton Association organized inauguration ceremony of 54th Tripura State Badminton Championship at NSRCC, Agartala, Tripura on Saturday (8th August, 2026).

In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial Lamp.

Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of the 54th Tripura State Badminton Championship Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha said that the State is witnessing a growing and healthy sports culture. The State Government is implementing various plans to improve sports infrastructure. As a result of these initiatives, the state has already achieved success in various sporting disciplines. At present, players of national and international standards are also emerging from our state.

“Tripura Badminton Association is playing an important role in promoting badminton in the state, identifying new talent, and nurturing skilled players. Such competitions not only provide players with opportunities to develop their talent but also generate new enthusiasm and encouragement among sports enthusiasts. Sports are one of the key means of ensuring the physical and mental development of individuals. Regular participation in sports helps us remain healthy, disciplined, confident, and productive. At the same time, sports teach us discipline, perseverance, team spirit, the ability to accept both victory and defeat equally, and the strength to remain steadfast in challenging situations.”, said Chief Minister.

“That sportspersons from Tripura have already been making their mark at the national and international levels in various disciplines. Renowned athletes of the state, including Olympian and Padma Shri awardee Dipa Karmakar, are an inspiration to the younger generation.”, said Dr. Saha

“Asmita Dey, a talented sportsperson from the state, won a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. By becoming the first Indian judoka in the history of the Commonwealth Games to win a gold medal, Asmita has made not only Tripura but the entire country proud. Her achievement proves that with proper training, dedication, and perseverance, success can be achieved on the international stage.”, CM added.

Highlighting the occasion, Chief Minister remarked that various initiatives have been undertaken to improve sports infrastructure and expand training facilities in the state. He said that both sports and culture play an important role in building a healthy, progressive, and humane society. He said that the state now has infrastructure such as synthetic turf football grounds, synthetic hockey fields, modern swimming pools, and synthetic athletic tracks. Construction of two multipurpose indoor sports halls is underway in Kailashahar and Udaipur. Work is also in progress on a 200-bed sports hostel at the Dasarath Deb Sports Complex in Badharghat. An initiative has been taken to construct a gallery with a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators at Dasarath Deb Stadium in Badharghat. An initiative has also been undertaken to construct a sports hall at NSRCC.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the championship would pave the way for emerging players to achieve success at the national and international levels and enhance Tripura’s sporting reputation.

Tripura Badminton Association Working President Ratan Saha delivered a welcome address at the event. He said that the 54th Tripura State Badminton Championship, organised by the Badminton Association, will be held from August 8 to August 10 in the Under-19, Senior, and Veteran categories.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Agartala Municipal Corporation Central Zone Chairperson Ratna Dutta, Tripura Sports Council Secretary Sukanta Ghosh many other distinguished dignitaries were present in the event.
