ABVP Stages Intense Protest In Front Of District Magistrate’s Office Demanding Arrest Of Accused.

Dharmanagar,Tripura, 25th of September, 2026 : Dharmanagar once again witnessed tension over allegations that the father of an ABVP activist was assaulted in connection with the incident that took place at Dharmanagar College on the 22nd.

On Thursday (24th September, 2026), members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a strong protest in front of the Dharmanagar District Magistrate’s office, demanding the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved. During the protest, the demonstrators burnt an effigy of Barnali Goswami to express their anger.According to the ABVP, several people close to Barnali Goswami allegedly attacked and severely assaulted the father of an ABVP activist under the cover of darkness on the night following the Dharmanagar College incident on the 22nd. He reportedly sustained serious injuries and, after receiving initial treatment at the district hospital, was referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala.The incident has reportedly caused considerable anger in the Dharmanagar area.

The ABVP claimed that it had already submitted a deputation to the administration demanding prompt legal action against those allegedly involved. However, the organisation alleged that no arrests had been made even after the incident. Raising questions over the administration’s role, ABVP activists staged a protest in front of the District Magistrate’s office on Thursday.

Among those present at the protest were Rupak Sen, Assistant Secretary of the ABVP Tripura State unit, along with several other ABVP leaders and activists.The protesters demanded an impartial investigation into the allegations, identification of the actual perpetrators, and their immediate arrest in accordance with the law. They also warned that they would not tolerate any political influence or administrative delay in the matter.To bring the situation under control, Meena Debbarma, Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, arrived at the spot. After speaking with the protesters, she assured them that the police would take necessary steps towards arresting the accused within the next 12 hours.

Following the police assurance, the ABVP activists temporarily withdrew their protest. However, they made it clear that if effective action was not taken against the accused within the stipulated time, they would launch a larger agitation across Dharmanagar.Political and social tensions reportedly continue in Dharmanagar in connection with the incident. The local police administration is monitoring the situation to prevent any further deterioration.However, the veracity of the allegations and the identities of those directly involved in the alleged assault can only be established through an investigation. Attention is now focused on the police’s subsequent course of action.
