Allegations Of Misuse And Wastage Of Government Funds Against The Forest Department.

Sabroom, Tripura, 3rd of August, 2026 : A serious allegation has been raised against the Sabroom Forest Department under Sabroom subdivision. It is alleged that a few years ago, the department spent lakhs of rupees from the government treasury for beautification purposes by installing large cement flower pots along the National Highway-08 stretch from Damdama to the zero point near Maitri Setu over the Feni River on the India-Bangladesh border, extending up to the Land Port-Sabroom gate from the road below the Sabroom Forest Department office.

In this regard, local resident Rajib Dey from the Damdama area of Sabroom alleged that the Forest Department has been misusing public funds. He claimed that every year, the department spends government money on plantation programmes at different locations across Sabroom subdivision, but alleged that many of these initiatives are conducted only for publicity purposes without proper follow-up and maintenance.

According to the allegation, after planting trees, the department does not take proper responsibility for their maintenance. As a result, many of the planted trees die due to a lack of care. Raising similar concerns, he further stated that a few years ago, the Sabroom Forest Department spent lakhs of rupees to plant trees in several hundred large flower pots, each reportedly costing around ₹900–₹1,000, along the stretch from Damdama to the zero point near Maitri Setu over the Feni River on the India-Bangladesh border, extending from National Highway-08 below the Sabroom Forest Department office up to the Land Port-Sabroom gate.

He alleged that after the plantation work, the department failed to maintain the plants and abandoned its responsibility. He questioned why government funds are being wasted due to such negligence by the authorities. He urged the government to take strict action regarding such matters and ensure proper accountability.
