Khowai, Tripura, 5th of May, 2025 : Alleged, a family from Simna Katachhara village under West Tripura District sold their one-day-old newborn baby girl due to poverty. On April 30, the fourth child of Prasanjit Das and Lakshmi Rani Sarkar was born at the Katlamara Primary Health Center in Simna and the child was sold to a family in Khowai on the same day.
The mother of the newborn baby girl claimed that they had 3 children so they could not raise the fourth child and that their child would be better in that family, so she gave it to them, but she also claimed that they had already been in contact with that family. The grandmother of the newborn baby claimed that the newborn baby girl had been sold.
As soon as the incident came to light, the police administration and Childline were on the alert. As soon as the incident came to light on Sunday, Sidhai Police Station and Sundar Tilla Police Outpost contacted Khowai Police Station and Childline with special urgency and the child was rescued and kept in a government home.
Meanwhile, the Commission for Protection of Child Rights in the case of the sale of a 1-day-old baby girl claimed that the child was sold wrongly, but the child was rescued and kept in the home. If, after investigation, it is found that the child’s family is unable to raise her, she will be adopted at a later date in accordance with the rules and regulations. The girl is in the home and is doing well.
