Assembly Session :  BSNL Free Use Of Land Occupied By Forest Department For Mobile Towers : Finance, IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy.

Agartala, 11th of January 2024 : The Government is working earnestly to solve the problem of internet in all the remote areas of the State where there is internet connectivity problem. Hon’ble Finance, Planning & Coordination, Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy gave this information in a reply to a question of Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma during the question and answer session in the Legislative Assembly last day on Thursday (11th January, 2024). The Finance & IT Minister also added that the 4G saturation project has been started by the Government of India with the help of Universal Service of Obligation Fund (USOF) to provide internet services to all the remote areas of the State. The project has been decided to be implemented by BSNL in the state and so far BSNL has identified 125 sites for new 4G mobile towers and 8 sites for 4G upgradation of existing towers.

The Information Technology Minister told the Assembly that the State Government has given 2000 square feet of land owned by the Government/Forest department to BSNL free of charge to implement this project. He also said that the tower construction work of 4G saturation project will be completed by the month of March this year, according to BSNL authorities. The search process is continuously going on to identify the villages where mobile and internet services are not reached. Telecommunication and internet services will be provided to those villages through various State and Central schemes.
