Agartala, 4th of February, 2024 : On 2nd Feb’ 2024 at about 1200 hrs an unsigned letter from SDM Kamalpur regarding issuance of permission for two journalists to accompany Hon’ble MLA Smt Swapna Das during visit to construction site of Kamalpur Border Haat was received at BOP Morachera. On receipt of letter Coy Commander BOP Morachera contacted SDM Kamalpur and requested to provide the details of media persons i.e their Identity details and accessories to be carried by them. On this SDM Kamalpur told Coy Commander to deal the matter as protocol dictates .
On 3rd Feb’ 2024 at about 1030 hrs, Hon’ble MLA Smt Swapna Das was welcomed by BSF Coy Commander at Gate no 134 . As she moved forward, two journalists followed her to move ahead of fence. On being requested by BSF Coy commander to deposit their cameras and phones at border fence gate as per existing Standard Operating Procedures , the journalist denied to follow the directions and protocol .
It is pertinent to apprise that timings of opening/closing of IBBFence Gates are fixed with discussion with farmers to facilitate/ regulate their movement . Movement of miscreants as alleged is neither noticed by BSF nor reported by the farmers.
Border Fence along the border is erected in the greater interest of the security of the nation and also to save the life and property of the common man residing in border area close to International Border. There are certain Standard Operating Procedures that is supposed to be followed .
Hon’ble MLA was not stopped by BSF rather she was welcomed at the fence gate by BSF Coy Commander. BSF Comdr only restricted carrying of cameras/ smart phones by the Journalists to Border haat construction site locted on International Boundary. Organizing of such event on International border require concurrence of Counterpart Border Guarding Forces and prior permission at appropriate level. When the the journalist were denied to carry electronic gadgets, hon’ble MLA returned back along with media personnel without visiting Border haat site . Further Hon’ble MLA gave byte to media persons about 50 meters from border fence.
Hon’ble MLA Smt Sapna Biwas visited the border area several times and was given due honour and regard by Border Security Force.
