Busan: Next Wave Showcase Brings Emerging Asian Cinema To 19th Mumbai International Film Festival.

New Delhi, Delhi, 17th of June, 2026 : The 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) presents  Busan: Next Wave, a special showcase of representative short films from the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), one of Asia’s most reputed film festivals.

Busan has established a strong reputation as a City of Film, supported by a flourishing film culture and a vibrant domestic film industry. Home to renowned events such as the Busan International Film Festival and the Busan International Short Film Festival, the city offers a rich ecosystem of screenings, community programmes, industry engagement initiatives and workshops that nurture emerging filmmakers. The Busan: Next Wave section at the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival features five films exploring diverse themes through refined and distinctive cinematic styles.

The film ‘A Man Who Takes Pictures of Flowers’ follows photographer Jung Myung Kim, who has spent more than 40 years travelling across Korea photographing wildflowers. Now facing a serious illness, he continues to find joy and purpose in his work. The film is a touching portrait of a man whose passion for nature and photography continues to give meaning to his life.

The film ‘Delay’ tells the story of a Chinese homosexual father travelling to Paris to attend his son’s wedding. However, unexpected delays and detours change the course of his journey. Through these experiences, the film explores family relationships, emotional distance and the complexities of a father-son bond.

The showcase also featured, the film ‘Noise Cancellation’ which follows Miju, who is struggling to secure compensation after a workplace injury. At the same time, she is disturbed by constant screaming from the apartment above her. As her search for answers intensifies, she becomes drawn into a mysterious and unsettling situation that begins to affect her daily life.

The others two films showcased are ‘Interface’ and ‘It sounds Louder on rainy days’. Together, the films reflected the richness and diversity of contemporary Asian cinema. Through distinctive narratives and innovative cinematic styles, the Busan Next Wave programme highlighted the creative vision of emerging filmmakers from across the region.
