Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Inaugurates Bipul Kanti Saha State Art & Craft Festival.

Agartala, Tripura, 5th of April 2025 : With the initiative of Information & Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Tripura, and The Government College of Art & Craft Three days long Bipul Kanti Saha State Art & Craft festival organized at College campus, Lichubagan, Agartala on Saturday (5th April, 2025). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the 3 days long Bipul Kanti Saha State Art & Craft festival today.



Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Three days long Bipul kanti Saha State Art & Craft festival Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the pioneer of modern sculpture in the state is Bipul Kanti Saha. He is one of the most talented children of this state. Due to his endless hard work and dedication, the sculpture art here has been appreciated in the world. Such personalities can never be forgotten. They will inspire the next generation to move forward. The festival will feature a drawing competition, cultural programs and discussions with prominent figures from the state’s art world. Exhibition stalls have been opened by 10 different organizations including Lalit Kala Academy, Fine Arts, Government College of Arts and Crafts, on the occasion of this three-day festival. The festival will start from 3 pm to 8 pm every day. It is worth noting that this event is organized under the initiative of the Information and Culture Department.

“The talented children of the state who have taken the name of this state to the peak of fame should not be forgotten. The Present Government is trying to give the due respect to all these personalities. Even though they have disappeared due to the laws of time, their work, thoughts, and consciousness can inspire the coming generation to develop the art and culture of the state in a large way. Although various forms of art were practiced in the royal family of Tripura, it was beyond the reach of the public”, Chief Minister added.

“Eminent personalities like Bipul Kanti Saha have easily presented these arts and cultures to the general public of the state. Apart from technology, the way the renowned personalities of the State have created their arts and culture is simply incredible. One can feel a sense of satisfaction by honoring such personalities. In this regard, the Chief Minister also highlighted in her speech that the various sports infrastructures newly built at Badharghat a few days ago were dedicated in the name of three renowned sportsmen of the state.”, Chief Minister added.

Addressing at the event Chief Minister also added that the resources for survival are hidden in the culture and traditions of any nation. Only if we are aware of our own talents will the excellence of the state’s culture and heritage increase further. Only if we are in the proximity of culture will the youth of the society remain free from the clutches of addiction. The Information and Culture Department has organized cultural programs on 122 topics in the last fiscal year. 101 cultural organizations have benefited financially. More than 10,000 artists have been involved in all these programs. About 330 artists have been sent to participate in various programs outside the state. The Chief Minister also said that in the budget for the 2025-26, an allocation of Rs 3 crore has been made for musical instrument workshops for Tribals across the state. Moreover, the Information and Culture Department is making efforts to present the disappearing folk culture like Jatra, puppet dance, Kirtan to the general public in a new form.

Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya delivered the welcome speech at the event.  Amidst the distinguished dignitaries participants there were Special Secretary of the Information and Culture Department, Debapriya Bardhan, Tripura State Cultural Advisory Committee Vice Chairman Subrata Chakraborty, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Principal-in-charge of the Government Arts and Crafts College, and Deepika Saha, wife of renowned sculptor Bipul Kanti Saha  and many other dignitaries were present in the celebration ceremony.
