Dharmanagar, Tripura, 13th of July 2026 : A stretch of the Dharmanagar–Kailashahar main road near Ward No. 2 of Deowanpasha in North Tripura has remained in a severely damaged condition for a long time. Despite repeated complaints from local residents and commuters, no permanent repair work has been undertaken, causing daily hardship for motorists and the general public.

On Monday (13th July, 2026), a goods-laden Bolero pickup bearing registration number TR05A1795 got stuck after one of its wheels sank into a large pothole while travelling from Dharmanagar. The driver and local residents made several attempts to free the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Eventually, another vehicle was used to tow the Bolero out of the pothole. The incident temporarily disrupted traffic on the road.
The driver, Swapan Roy, a resident of Tongibari in Dharmanagar, said that driving on the damaged roads in the area has become extremely risky. He alleged that although the concerned department occasionally fills the potholes with stones following complaints, the repairs are only temporary, and the road quickly deteriorates again. As a result, drivers continue to face serious difficulties.Local residents also complained that they have repeatedly drawn the attention of the administration and the concerned authorities to the poor condition of this stretch of road. However, no effective repair work has been initiated so far.
During the monsoon, rainwater accumulates in the potholes, making it impossible to judge their depth and increasing the risk of accidents.Residents have demanded a comprehensive and permanent repair of the road instead of temporary patchwork. They warned that unless immediate action is taken, the likelihood of a major accident in the future cannot be ruled out.
