Former MLA and Associate Member of Agartala Press Club Tapas Dey Passes Away.

Agartala, Tripura, 13th of September, 2026 : Former MLA and Associate Member of Agartala Press Club Tapas Dey breathed his last at a private hospital in Agartala late Friday (11th September, 2026) night. He was 81 years old at the time of his death.

For more than three decades, Tapas Dey had been associated with Agartala Press Club as an associate member, offering valuable advice and actively extending his support to the organization. He was known as a truly helpful person who always came forward to lend a helping hand to anyone in distress. Although he was an active political personality, he remained above narrow political considerations and maintained a broad-minded approach.

In 1972, he was elected as a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from Salgarh. Even after several decades, he continued to sincerely fulfill the responsibilities associated with being a public representative—something that is not often seen even among many recently retired elected representatives.

He maintained a close association with the media fraternity and served as the editor of the newspaper.

For a long period, he also served as the Tripura representative of a magazine published from Shillong. The sudden news of Tapas Dey’s death brought a wave of grief to the media fraternity on Saturday. At around 11:45 am, when the mortal remains of Agartala Press Club associate member Tapas Dey were brought to the Agartala Press Club, senior editors, eminent journalists, academicians and officials of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department paid their last respects by placing floral wreaths.

Agartala Press Club expressed deep sorrow and paid heartfelt tribute to the memory of the late Tapas Dey, while conveying its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and relatives. eminent Journalist and Chief Editor of Syandan Patrika & Syandan TV Subal Kumar Dey, President of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar, Secretary of Agartala Press Club Ramakanta Dey,  Joint Secretaries of the Agartala Press Club Kamal Chowdhury and Abhishek Dey, Treasurer Ranjan Roy, Executive Member Abhishek Debbarma, other members of Agartala Press Club and journalists paid last homage.
