Tripura Yuktibad Bikash Mancha March For Science: A Call for Building a Scientific-Minded Society.

Agartala, Tripura, 13th of September, 2026 : With the initiative of Tripura Yuktibad Bikash Mancha on Saturday (12th September, 2026) organized a ‘March for Science’ rally to spread scientific awareness and promote a scientific-minded society.

At the rally, the member of Yuktibad Bikash Manch explained what the ‘March for Science’ is, its objectives, and the various initiatives undertaken by the Tripura Yuktibad Bikash Mancha in the field of the science movement in Tripura for more than three decades.

The subsequent speakers highlighted the nature of the government’s various anti-science policies. Particular emphasis was placed on how various provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 are contributing to the contraction of the public and universal education system and paving the way for the commercialization of education.

The speakers also highlighted how privatization and commercialization in the state’s healthcare policy have intensified in recent times.

On the issue of the environment, the speakers said that the government is collecting substantial revenue by holding ordinary citizens responsible for environmental pollution and imposing fines on them, while environmental regulations and laws are being relaxed in the interests of big capital. The speakers strongly opposed the government’s approach toward environmental violations by corporate entities and demanded effective action against violations of environmental regulations in the interests of environmental protection and public health.

The speakers emphasized that science is not merely a matter for laboratories or scientists; scientific temper is one of the fundamental foundations of social progress. Therefore, people must participate more actively in the struggle against superstition, blind faith and unscientific thinking, and in the movement to build a scientific-minded society.

The primary objective of the march is to raise the demand for ensuring every person’s right to scientific education and healthcare, and to mobilize the public towards building a scientific-minded society.

We oppose the trend of removing important scientific subjects such as evolution and the periodic table from school curricula and demand that these subjects be reintroduced into the syllabus. At the same time, we oppose the government’s policy of introducing superstition, unscientific ideas and religious fanaticism into the curriculum in the name of the ‘Indian Knowledge System’. Our movement against the promotion of unscientific ideas through government initiatives will continue.

Government expenditure on scientific research must be increased for the advancement of knowledge and technology in the interests of humanity. At the same time, public opinion must be mobilized against the destruction of the environment and harm to public life caused in the interests of profit-making by large corporations.

With these demands, a long march, organized under the name ‘March for Science’ as part of the worldwide March for Science, began today from the South Gate of Raj Bari and culminated in a street Corner at Battala. The programme concluded with a recitation of ‘Rasta Karor Ekar Noy’ and the singing of the revolutionary song ‘Amra Korbo Joy’
