Dharmanagar, Tripura, 18th of May 2026 : Former Minister of the Land Revenue and Land Reforms Department of the Tripura Government and former MLA of the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, Kalidas Dutta, breathed his last on Sunday at around 4:20 PM. He was 80 years old.
News of his demise cast a deep shadow of grief over the Nayapara area and the entire Dharmanagar subdivision.According to family sources, he had been suffering from age-related ailments for a long time and spent most of his time at home. On Sunday around 3:30 PM, he suddenly experienced severe chest pain. Family members immediately rushed him to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead shortly afterward. It is primarily suspected that he died of a heart attack.
At the time of his death, his wife and daughter were by his side. His son, who works in Bengaluru, has not yet reached Dharmanagar. Family sources stated that he is expected to arrive home around 10 AM on Monday.As news of Kalidas Dutta’s death spread, Congress workers, supporters, well-wishers, and local residents began gathering at his residence in Nayapara. A wave of mourning also spread through political circles. During his long political career, he had built a close bond with the people of Dharmanagar and was widely known for standing beside ordinary citizens.
Party sources said that after his son arrives home, a mourning procession will carry his mortal remains first to the Congress Bhavan, where party leaders and workers will pay their last respects. Later, the body will be taken to his long-time workplace, Dinnanath Narayani Vidyamandir, where colleagues, former and current students, and admirers will offer their final tributes.Apart from politics, his contributions to the field of education were also highly significant. Through teaching and social work, he influenced the lives of many people. His death has created deep sorrow among political leaders, the education community, and the general public.
Many residents expressed that with the passing of this veteran political leader, Dharmanagar has lost an experienced guardian figure.
