Dharmanagar, Tripura, 18th of May 2026 : Dharmanagar District Hospital, the primary healthcare lifeline for hundreds of thousands of people in North District, has now effectively become a symbol of disorder, negligence, and gross administrative apathy. Despite repeated complaints from the public and patients’ families over the hospital’s deteriorating condition, no visible improvement has been seen. Instead, the situation appears to be worsening day by day. Although promises have repeatedly been made regarding advanced medical services, modern infrastructure, and a patient-friendly environment, people allege that none of these commitments have materialized in reality. Public anger against the state government, the Health Department, and local ruling party leaders has now reached a peak.

According to residents, “Everything is happening openly before everyone’s eyes, yet it seems as though those responsible have deliberately chosen to ignore it.”One of the most alarming issues is the lack of proper drinking water facilities for patients and their families. Although water purification machines are installed within the hospital premises, most of the time no water is available from them. In the scorching heat, the suffering of sick patients and their attendants has reached unbearable levels.
Meanwhile, several hospital beds are reportedly being used to store garbage and unnecessary equipment instead of accommodating patients. As a result, many patients are being forced to receive treatment on the dirty hospital floors. Concerned citizens believe such a situation in a district hospital is deeply shameful. The crisis has worsened further due to a strike by sanitation workers. Alleging non-payment of wages for a prolonged period, the workers have stopped work, leading to unhygienic conditions in various wards, corridors, and toilets of the hospital. The foul smell, accumulated waste, and unclean environment are causing severe difficulties not only for patients but also for doctors and healthcare workers.Particularly alarming is the condition of the toilets meant for patients, which are reportedly so filthy and poorly maintained that no mentally sound person would want to enter them.

In many places, the lack of regular cleaning is clearly visible, increasing the risk of infection.A section of local residents believes that mere painting or minor renovations will not solve the crisis; instead, the entire hospital administration requires a complete overhaul. Due to long-standing administrative failures and irresponsibility, the hospital’s services have virtually collapsed. Consequently, demands are growing louder for the immediate transfer of certain negligent officials and staff members currently working at the hospital.
The people of North District are now asking: If this is the condition of a district hospital, where will ordinary citizens go for treatment? Many fear that unless strict administrative action is taken immediately, public outrage could eventually turn into a major protest movement. Now the question remains — after mounting allegations and public anger, will the Health Department finally take action, or will the suffering of North District’s people once again remain buried beneath hollow promises?
