Agartala, Tripura, 18th of May, 2026 : Highlighting its strong focus on strengthening post-harvest management and marketing of produce, the Tribal Welfare Department under its World Bank-funded Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) is actively working towards creating better market opportunities for farmers. The initiative emphasizes exploring new avenues for sales, ensuring fair prices for farmers associated with TRESP-led producer groups, and promoting profitable marketing of agricultural and horticultural products, thereby building a sustainable and market-oriented agri-horti ecosystem in the tribal-dominated blocks of Tripura.

In line with this vision, a one-day Training-cum-Workshop on Post Harvest & Marketing was successfully conducted on 16th May 2026 by the Agri/Horti PIU at the Conference Hall of PIU Agri/Horti under the Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Paradise Chowmuhani. The programme aimed to enhance technical knowledge and provide practical insights into post-harvest management and marketing in the agri-horti sector. It covered key areas such as crop and harvesting planning, input and output marketing strategies, and post-harvest practices including sorting, grading, packaging, processing, branding, promotion, e-marketing, and export marketing.

Organized for the capacity building of District Managers (PH&M), District Managers (Agri), and Cluster Coordinators, the training focused on strengthening market linkages and improving farmers’ access to better markets and value chains. The session was chaired by Mr. Manoj Debbarma, Joint Director, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, and was attended by officials of Agri/Horti PIU along with resource persons from Agriculture College, APEDA, and private organizations.
The workshop was highly interactive and informative, significantly enhancing participants’ understanding of value addition, branding, and market linkage development. It is expected to support effective field-level implementation of post-harvest and marketing activities, ultimately helping farmers improve product quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase income opportunities.
