Dharmanagar, Tripura, 14th of May 2026 : An atmosphere of grief has gripped Ward No. 16 of the Shibbari area in Dharmanagar town, North Tripura, following the unnatural death of a retired college professor. The deceased has been identified as Sujit Chakraborty (70). He was widely known not only for his long career in college teaching but also as a cultured and respected member of society.

According to family sources, Sujit Chakraborty had been suffering from various physical ailments for quite some time. Family members also stated that he had been struggling with mental depression in recent months. News of his death on Wednesday spread quickly, causing shock and concern among local residents.After receiving information about the incident, police from Dharmanagar Police Station rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. Police sources said that a note was recovered from the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that in the note, Sujit Chakraborty did not hold anyone responsible for his death.The police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Authorities stated that the investigation is continuing to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.Meanwhile, his death has cast a deep shadow of sorrow among family members, neighbours, and former students. Many in the locality are remembering his contributions and dignified personality.
