Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation set up under the initiative of Mahatma Research Foundation at Renters Society, Jogendra Nagar, Agartala on Friday (30th, June 2023).
“It is never possible to move society forward on any principle other than non-violence. The principle of non-violence preached by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi is still relevant to us today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also believes in the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi especially his preachings of non-violence”, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the unveiled ceremony of the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation.
The Chief Minister also added that Mahatma Gandhi was the leading figure of India’s freedom movement. He emphasized the three principles of non-violence, satyagraha and swaraj in the freedom movement. Mahatma Gandhi’s dream was that every village in India would be self-reliant and self-sufficient. In all circumstances, Gandhiji stood firm on the principle of non-violence and truth. Gandhiji’s birthday on October 2 was also declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day of Non-Violence. The Chief Minister thanked all the members of Mahatma Research Foundation for this initiative. At the beginning of the program, a minute’s silence was observed to pay respect to the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident in the return Chariot Festival at Kumarghat.
Mahatma Research Foundation President Shyamal Chowdhury and Vice president Nakul Das handed over a cheque of Rs. 25,000 for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on behalf of Mahatma Research Foundation.
Mahatma Research Foundation President Shyamal Chowdhury and Vice President Nakul Das also spoke on the occasion. Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder and other dignitaries were present in the unveiling ceremony.
