The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) of Kumarghat celebrated the return “Chariot Festival” at Kumarghat under the Unakoti district on Wednesday (28th, June 2023). A large number of people participated in the Return Chariot Festival. As per sources, the incident took place at Kumarghat around 4:30 pm when a chariot pulled by people came in contact with a high-tension overhead wire. Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha rushed to Kumarghat soon after the incident was reported to him.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited the place of occurrence where the tragedy during the return “Chariot Festival” seven lives and leaving 16 devotees injured today. The Chief Minister met With the injured persons who are undergoing treatment in hospitals and inquired about their health condition.

The state government has decided to provide ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased & Rs. 2.5 lakh for those suffered severe (above 60%) injuries & Rs. 74,000 for those who have been partially (40-60%) injured. Also passed an instruction for conducting a probe into the incident by a committee headed by District Magistrate and submit the report”, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha tweeted.
