Kumarghat Incident : 4 Lakh Financial Assistance To The Relatives Of The Deceased Announced Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) of Kumarghat celebrated the return “Chariot Festival” at Kumarghat under the Unakoti district on Wednesday (28th, June 2023). A large number of people participated in the Return Chariot Festival.

As per sources, the incident took place at Kumarghat around 4:30 pm when a chariot pulled by people came in contact with a high-tension overhead wire. This tragic accident took place when the chariot was electrocuted on the national highway near Gitanjali Auditorium while heading towards North Pabiachra in the afternoon. Immediately after receiving the information about the accident, the rescue team of the firemen rushed the dead and injured to the hospital. According to the information, 7 people including children have been killed and 16 injured in this accident. The injured are undergoing treatment at Kumarghat, Fatikroy, Kailashahar and Agartala hospitals. Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha rushed to Kumarghat soon after the incident was reported to him.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has expressed deeply anguished by the tragic accident at Kumarghat. After visiting the site and the hospital this evening, the Chief Minister said in a press conference at PWD Dak Bungalow, Kumarghat is very heartbreaking and shocking. The Chief Minister said that “I am deeply saddened. Expressing deep condolences to the families of the deceased. The State Government is with the families of the deceased and injured”. “The Chief Minister also said that “the State Government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of each victim. Moreover, financial assistance of Rs. 2.5 lakh will be given to those injured more than 60 percent and Rs. 74,000 to those injured 40 to 60 percent”, the Chief Minister also said that in the press conference”. Also, the injured have been given free treatment at the hospital. Local administration officials and senior officials of the state administration have been directed to take all necessary measures in this regard. In the press conference, the Chief Minister also said that it has been announced that the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund will provide 2 lakh to the families of the victims and 50 thousand to the injured. In this case, the Government will bear the cost of taking the injured abroad for treatment. In the press conference, the Chief Minister said that the District Magistrate has already been instructed to investigate the incident.

Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, Labour Minister Tinku Roy, MLA and Former SC Welfare and ARDD Minister Bhagaban Das, Unakoti Zilla Parishad Chairman Amlendu Das, Unakoti District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, Kumarghat Sub-Divisional Magistrate Subrata Das, TIDC Chairman Nabadal Banik and others were present during the CM visited the place of occurrence.
