Dharmanagar, Tripura, 22nd of July 2026 : A tragic road accident in the Bethchhara area of Unakoti district claimed the life of advocate Biswajit Debbarma, a resident of Nepaltila and a member of the Kailashahar Bar Association. His untimely death has cast a shadow of grief over the legal fraternity and the local community. However, amid the mourning, allegations of severe mismanagement at the morgue of Dharmanagar District Hospital have sparked widespread outrage among the deceased’s family members and colleagues.

According to reports, a head-on collision occurred between a pineapple- laden Mahindra Bolero (Registration No. TR-05H-1533) and a motorcycle (Registration No. TR-02H-5471) in the Bethchhara area. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle rider, Biswajit Debbarma, sustained critical injuries.

He was initially rushed to Kumarghat Hospital for emergency treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Unakoti District Hospital in Kailashahar. Doctors later decided to shift him for advanced medical care, but his condition worsened further during transit. He was eventually taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead after examination.Upon receiving information, Dharmanagar Police reached the hospital and initiated the required legal procedures. Police stated that the body would be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination, while an investigation into the exact cause of the accident has already begun. However, the controversy did not end there.

The deceased’s family alleged that shocking negligence came to light while attempting to preserve the body in the hospital morgue. According to them, no morgue staff were present, and despite waiting for a considerable period, no responsible personnel arrived, leaving the grieving family and colleagues in a helpless situation. The allegations become even more serious as the family claimed that fellow advocates of the deceased were ultimately forced to unlock the morgue themselves, prepare the cold storage chamber, and switch on the cooling system to preserve the body.

Lawyers present at the hospital strongly condemned the incident, calling it a glaring example of administrative negligence. They questioned how the public could expect even basic services from a government district hospital when essential facilities such as the morgue were left unattended.According to the advocates, the hospital administration’s alleged indifference and lack of responsibility caused additional emotional trauma to the bereaved family.

They have demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident and strict administrative action against those found responsible. The untimely death of Biswajit Debbarma has left the people of Nepaltila and the entire Unakoti district in mourning. Members of the Kailashahar Bar Association expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family. At the same time, they described the incident at Dharmanagar District Hospital’s morgue as deeply shameful and called for the immediate intervention of the Chief Minister and the State Health Department to ensure that such negligence is never repeated.
